Born in former Czechoslovakia, Lucia is now living and painting in Brighton. She was recently awarded an MA at Masaryk University in Brno on the topic of Francis Bacon.
Lucia has not followed an orthodox route to being a professional artist having travelled extensively including a spell training pitbull terriers in the USA as a teenager.
All her paintings are clearly linked by her distinctive vision that illustrates her individuality and her bold artistic independence.
She has exhibited in London at the Saatchi sponsored festival Concrete and Glass in 2008 and recently at Islington Arts Factory Summer Salon. She also exhibited in Florence, Barcelona, Prague and Brno.
Her artist statement is: "My paintings are not constrained by one specific style or subject matter. Style and themes are artistic prisons – too many artists create their own prison and become one-trick ponies. I want to paint from an inner voice and, for me, this means not being constrained by any particular category. A shadow is a shadow of an object but it could also be an all-black canvas; it all depends on the fundamental integrity of the painter and their intention. It shines through, in the end, even a shadow can shine through.”
