Mara Kalnina is a Latvian artist working in textiles and mixed media. She is a graduate of the Art Academy of Latvia, Visual Arts Faculty where she majored in textiles. She has travelled widely and exhibited her work in at least a dozen different countries. Her artwork is in private collections as far away as Germany, Latvia, India and the United States of America.
Initially earning her living as a professional textile artist, Mara has allowed her creativity to develop from tapestry to painting, experimenting with techniques, approaches and media, i.e. oil pastels, acrylic, oil paints, gouache and golden thread.
Her paintings reflect her travel experiences and her passion for mythology and nature.
Mara tries to take her audience on a journey into the unknown unique world full of colour and vividness. Her main objective always is to share the joy of her art with others.
