I was born on the Isle of Arran, Scotland, painted from an early age - landscapes and ever changing moods of island landscape and horses (rode full time until aged 18). Graduated Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen in 1984 work selected and hung for Student Exhibition Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh 1982 and Melbourne City Art Gallery - Scottish Student Exhibition 1981. On graduation, painted in spare time only, exhibited at Maclaurin Gallery in Ayr and later at Bedford Art Gallery. Since moving to Somerset 10 years ago, I have exhibited and sold my work widely during Somerset Art weeks - 2008-present, Bridgwater Arts Centre, Trowbridge Gallery, Castle Cary, Cottage Gallery, Wedmore and Sea Breeze Gallery, Burnham-on-Sea. Online sales have seen my work go to London, Ireland and the US.
The inspiration for my work has always been my surroundings, the mood and light of a landscape. I try to evoke a feeling of a time and place using sketches, photos and relying on my own experience. I have always appreciated horses and prefer to concentrate on the eyes in my portraits - as they truly convey the gentleness and intelligence of these truly wonderful animals.
