I've always drawn, at junior school I used to be taken out of lessons to decorate the church which I thought was great as I escaped Mrs Meehan. I failed the 11+ but passed for Moseley Road Art School, B'ham but wasted it when I went into engineering. Art was a great escape for me not something you ever made a living at but over the years I've given work away to friends and relations. In 1990 I qualified as a teacher of design, what I should've done when I left school but better late than never. Since then I've managed, much to my surprise to actually sell my work, the bit I hate as letting them go is such a pain but my wife is fed up with them occupying space in the loft, bedrooms, etc. I also feel very uncomfortable selling my work and as an example I exhibited at a gallery for two days a few years ago; first day I managed to sell 1 picture mainly because I tell buyers how bad the pictures are, second day, while dropping my daughter off a fellow artist said, 'Tell him to get lost, he's telling people how poor his work is' but in more anglo saxon terms. She managed to sell the other eight.
