I studied Fine Art, video editing and TV camera at Manchester Polytechnic and Goldsmiths. I exhibited paintings and wall sculptures at various group exhibitions at Metropolitan Wharf, Wapping, and the Waterloo Artists Co-operative (London). I also painted sets and backdrops for theatres and trade shows. During the next four years I designed, built and painted sets and props for commercial photographers, trade shows and TV ads. Then I set up a special effects and set design company with five model makers and went on to art direct national TV ads for companies such as: Yardley, Lego and Creda, design and paint large artworks for the Prima Pasta chain of restaurants and work on a series of interior design commissions.
I spent three years back up north in Cumbria and then Manchester where I carved sandstone and limestone reliefs as well as building and painting sets for commercial photographers.
I moved to Sydney where I exhibited, and sold, paintings at the BPC gallery, Rushcutter’s Bay and the Wadi gallery, Bondi, made and/ or art directed a series of short films and continued to paint sets/murals/commissions and design interiors.
After seven years I moved back to the UK and, for the past seven years I have been teaching a variety of ‘evening’ art and interior design classes and A-level, GCSE and Access Foundation classes for a local College of Further Education. In that time I have also made a couple of short films, and after a gap of nearly 5 years I started painting again.
