Hello I am Michael Hand I studied painting at Loughborough college of fine art and Granada Bella Artes Spain. From my degree show I was selected to exhibit at London's Fresh Art where, in addition to selling my work, I also gained the interest of an agent and a number of galleries. I then went on to sell work both at home and abroad and exhibited in Nottingham castle, Leeds city art gallery, Wakefield collage, Warrington art gallery and Kensington London.
At the same time I worked as a part time lecturer in a number of colleges and created murals for both private clients and the leisure industry. I now paint full time from my studio in West Yorkshire.
I work mainly in acrylics and occasionally oils, the former facilitating the speed with which I work. Painting from life or sketches/photographs the process always seems to be the same, I begin painting from direct observation and correct the composition as I go. The dialogue then becomes with the painting itself, striving to represent the motif whilst allowing the paint and marks to remain 'painterly'.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my work.
