 Mihail Mihaylov, artistically known as Michael Del Monty, is a post- surrealistic artist born on the 4th of July in a city with over 4000 years of history in the beautiful lands of Bulgaria. His early influence comes exactly from the ancient traditions and spirit of this incredible town. Monty was raised up in a highly educated and spiritual family, strongly influenced by beliefs of the master, Peter Deunov. He began painting at the early age of 10 wining many children contests and gaining a name for himself around in his motherland.
By the age of 18 Monty who’s thought by many to have incredible abilities decides to turn a new page in his life. At this point he establishes his new style which is a subject of his beliefs in Arthur Schopenhauer, Rudolf Steiner and Lao Tse. Monty continues to paint by turning to the complete freeing of the mind, without caring about styles, colors and modes. After he spends a long time in experimenting with new things he discovers tantric yoga and later on the 4 way of Gurdjieff which he practices till now. Monty agrees with Krishnamurti: “It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. ” And he prefers to be hated for who you are than loved for whom you’re not. This and his other many beliefs put him into trouble with the current government at 1984 and he’s forced to stop painting for a long period of time.
At that period of time Monty turns again to the 4 way of Gurdjieff and invents an isometric apparatus. Monty returns into the art world at the late 1999 and slowly begins to bring his reputation back - in the meantime he also studies Carl Jung, Wilhelm Reich, Mircea Eliade which could be seen in his late work.
Monty has made a personal exhibition of his works at 2005 at the town of Stara Zagora Bulgaria and he also has taken part in the national exhibition held in Sofia Bulgaria with the theme “My Inside World” 2006 and also made a private exhibition in Chicago the same year. Furthermore Monty has made a Valentine Day’s exhibition and a street exhibition on 23rd Feb in central London in 2009. Big part of his paintings have been sold across the world featuring U. S. A, U. K, Spain, France and his homeland Bulgaria and are now essential part of highly respected collectors compilation.
