Mike Baggi was not keen on school, but excelled at art and won a place in an art class for children of special talent. This took place in a museum, and in his childhood he spent Saturday mornings drawing the stuffed animals. As an adult he moved into portraits of people as well as animals. He also goes to a life drawing group each week, which underpins his art. Life drawing involves observation of details, and if you get the shapes, tones or proportions wrong it is quickly evident. Mike uses oils, acrylics, pastel, and charcoal. Charcoal is a painterly medium which gives great subtlety of tonal values, and in some ways behaves like paint, so you can get impact quickly. Mike is always looking for images of high impact, whether these are people or animals.
