For as long as I can remember I have had a brush or pencil in my hand, practising with portraits of family members (my poor sisters had no peace) from a really young age. It was this constant practice of observing people and translating them onto a blank page that sparked my interest in art. I studied a BTEC foundation course in art and design at Newcastle under Lyme college after finishing my A Levels. Once I completed the BTEC, I went on to study Fine Art at Staffordshire University. I primarily work with charcoal and have developed a layering technique to achieve extremely deep blacks giving the portraits a rich tonal diversity.
