Mita Higton was born in India to an English mother and Indian father. Although she has called England her home for over 40 years, she has also lived in the Middle East, West Africa and the USA. She has a grown-up son and daughter and 2 grand-daughters, all who live in West Africa. Mita now lives in Suffolk with her artist husband, Steve Higton.
It was while she was an expat wife in Dubai in 1990 that she picked up a paint brush for the first time and discovered the joy of painting in watercolours. Her love of the medium has stayed constant and the East Anglian ‘big’ skies and light that dominate its sea and landscapes have proved wonderfully inspirational for her. She loves to paint impressionistic, loose and vibrant paintings and is equally happy painting an animal portrait or the beautiful coastline near her home in North Suffolk.
Mita belongs to Suffolk Open Studios and is represented by Sun Lane Gallery in New Market. She is also showing her work at various local exhibitions in Norfolk and Suffolk and has been awarded 'Best Watercolour' and 'Highly Commended' on her paintings showing in the various local exhibitions. Her work is greatly admired and she achieves sales, in spite of the current economic climate.
