Artist Natalia Markowska

Natalia Markowska was born in Lodz, Poland in February 1985. She has attended life drawing and painting course at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz as well as obtained a diploma in History of Art in 2004. In 2007 she has completed a Foundation Course In Art and Design at London Metropolitan University, gaining National BTEC Diploma. Willing to continue painting, Natalia has attended Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design at London Metropolitan University where in June 2010 she finished BA (Hons) Fine Art (specialist route-painting) obtaining Second-Class Honours, upper division degree. Natalia was always very much interested in colour and composition as well as movement of the human body. Since art started to play significant part in her life Vassily Kandinsky’s paintings as well as essays became a great influence in her future work. During the first two years at the university, she has collaborated with another student, and both of them have been working on the same canvases, combining painting with performance. Never the less for her degree show Natalia decided to work on her own and focused on abstract expressionism / gesture painting where she combined movement with figurative images. She used vivid colours loosely applying them in a very energetic way, creating movement and dynamism, which allowed the images to expand beyond the edges of the canvas. The interpretation of her paintings was left to the viewer imagination however the dynamism in the work reflects the artist temperament and the freedom within her inner self.
