Nesrin Elmarakbi

Since I was a young girl, I loved colours, art, design, media, fashion, composition, and classic music. I obtained a bachelor degree in arts in theatre in May 1995 at Academy of Arts, Theatre Arts Department, Egypt. Then I have obtained my diploma in interior design decorating in November 2004 at Thomson Education, Canada. In addition, I have obtained two additional courses in drafting and computer graphic at Cairo University, Egypt. I have worked as an interior designer as well as a freelance artist in Egypt , Canada , Japan and UK for many years. During my work period, I obtained extensive experience in the following tasks; fine art (oil painting, acrylic, gouache, water colour, collage art, drawing, glass painting and pastel); craft art (paper, wood, leather, fabric, models, recycle stuff and sculpture);creating new ideas, colours, design and computer graphic; theatre design decorating, costume, light, furniture, drama, music, photography, history of theatre, and application; design and application of interior and exterior design decorating. In January 2006, I joined Tohoku International School (TIS) in Japan to work as an art teacher. As an art teacher, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity given to me in TIS to help pupils shape their own intellectual wealth and to help them to use the processes and materials of visual art, to explore their own ideas, feelings, cultural identities, observations, and imaginations, to examine the role of visual art in cultures and societies, past and present and to explore the role of visual images in their own daily lives. I used visual images throughout the year to illustrate concepts and to help students understand the visual environment. Also, I introduced the pupils to a variety of materials (pencil, crayons, markers, pastels, paint to be used with a variety of applicators such as brushes, fingers, sponges, and sticks; collage – using a variety of cut and torn papers, fabrics, found materials, clay, simple methods of printmaking and construction using cardboard and found objects). In addition, I established practices in the classroom to encourage ongoing, spontaneous image making and guided pupils in their art making (In many cases, this is simply a matter of asking the individual pupil thought provoking questions, and encouraging him or her to consider various solutions to problems encountered during visual art experiences). On the interpersonal side, I am energetic person, flexible, work independent and with team work and demonstrated ability to use simple ways to present complex ideas and to acquire and apply knowledge rapidly. Therefore, I received several prestigious awards and merit certificates, including: the best photographer award (first place), Koryu Gallery, International Center of Sendai, Japan; merit certificate, Toronto public health, Canada; merit certificate, Le Levant Exhibition for Fine Arts in Montréal, Canada; and merit certificate, Theatre Decor Festival, Cairo University, Egypt. I have strong organisational, multitasking and leadership skills as well as excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills and recognise the importance of the professional activities. Therefore, I have prepared and organised the art based out of school activities, including, visits, trips, workshops and school festivals. Most importantly, I designed and organised the theatre activates in the school. Furthermore, I successfully severed as an organiser for many workshops and exhibition in fine art and theatre décor in different countries as well as participated in national and international exhibitions. In addition, I got many merit certificates from different countries and I am a member of the following professional organisations; The Aurora Project Creative Programme, Northumberland County Council, UK , Syndicate of Plastic Arts Egypt, International Association of Art, UNESCO, Egypt; Egyptian Syndicate of Artists, Egypt; Visual Arts Ontario, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; The Association of Professional Visual Artists, CARFAC, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
