| I have always been sat in front of a piece of paper ever since I can remember, especially in the art room at school, obtaining 'A's at O and A level and moving on to do a foundation course and a degree course in graphic design at Bristol Polytechnic, graduating in 1985 with a first class honours degree. Eventually I became a creative director for a number of Bristol based agencies, revelling in the design process but always painting in my spare time, exhibiting acrylic paintings in Bristol. I won a Heist award for my design work for the University of Gloucestershire and my illustration work has appeared in Design Week. Three years ago I lay down my brushes and decided that my computer skills could produce works of art that would create a significant impact through their size and colour. These images start as digital photos I have taken myself and are then plied with colour to eventually produce stunning, bold and fresh artworks, reminiscent of silk screen prints and produced as limited editions. They are works from a computer but not the usual results that many imagine. This makes people look again, and think again about digital art. These could have been produced by hand. In effect, they are. |
