Paul Chestnutt

Artist Paul ChestnuttHow do I describe myself here ??..Isn't "selling yourself" all about ..."I am brilliant/the best/great..etc etc..? WELL!!....here goes MY..self "portfolio" ... Let me begin by stating the fact that I do NOT!!! believe I am "brilliant/fantstic/or great... I simply enjoy drawing, and have done since my earliest memory..I also enjoy (from time to time) putting paint on canvas, although "cartoons"will ALWAYS be my first love. Growing up throughout the "troubles" over here In Northern Ireland, I managed to stay away from all the turmoil and strife that unfortunately most of my classmates descended into,(I preferred to stay indoors and draw rather than go out to toss rocks and bombs at someone I didn't know). ANYHOW.... My first drawings..(so I am told by my Mother, were simple crayon scribbles on the newly wallpapered walls of my parents house, and then I learned to walk...which meant of course that my "studio" became ever larger. I went to nursery school..where all the other kids wanted to play "war" and pretend fight...I myself had no such yearnings, and sat in the corner with something to make marks on paper. Primary school was much the same...with me wanting to paint/draw/scribble, and occasionally "learn" other stuff as well. then came secondary school (and OH BOY was that a shock to my system)..they wanted me to "do sports"... NOPE!!!!..was my reply....and in those days an answer like that meant a lash of the cane, which annoyed me somewhat....as it meant I couldn't draw or hold a pen for a few hours....but nonetheless....I carried on, refusing to kick a ball, hold a bat, or run around a muddy field in the middle of January. so I took to going to my art teachers rooms instead, and he allowed me to "potter"around in there..he was a "hippie" and didn't really care too much about anything other than where his next "funny smoke" was coming from...so I had basically " free rein, and OH BOY did I enjoy that freedom !!!! that was when I discovered that I could draw/paint/and generally do whatever I held in my head , and turn it into "art" and here I find myself now...many years later...doing what I hold dear, and LOVE.......ART!!!! love my artwork.....or HATE my artwork....I love having a response of ANY kind.....if you LOVE IT?......Thank you....if you HATE it???Thank you (because I will look inside myself and strive to better myself) at the end of the day....if I can be remembered when I am dead and gone for putting ONE smile..on ONE persons face...(simply by that person looking at a drawing I have done?)....................... I will rest easy.... Here endeth the lesson Love and peace to all Paulie xox
