Artist Paul Cunningham

I have loved art all my life. In 2005 I set up a blogsite called 'Art-ic' that can be found at http://paulsnewblog.blogspot.com/. I use this blog to show my work, express my opinions and experience as a painter and, uniquely, show each stage of each painting that I produce. At the moment my blog is regularly viewed mainly by work colleagues but that is something that could change if I'm favoured by luck or success. I study art history and find myself mostly drawn to artists such as Monet, Pissaro, Sisley, Bazille, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Matisse and Picasso. I am mainly interested in figurative painting but will turn my hand to landscapes and still lives as well. Having a well known name is everything in art as a business. There's no doubt about it. The main element in the determination of monetary value in a painting, drawing or piece of sculpture is the existing fame of the artist. This situation leads me to sell for modest sums work more accomplished than some of the pieces of the well known names that sell for thousands. But as the 19th century French painter Daubigny explained, the best art is that which is not produced for sale. So on that basis, I'll continue to produce work that looks good to me as an artist... and if any of it does sell, that's a bonus!
