I was born in Norway to British parents and moved over to England at the age of six. As a child and young adult I lived in Lincolnshire, the coastal region of East Yorkshire, Birmingham, London and Oxfordshire, finally settling in Nottinghamshire. I have travelled extensively throughout Europe to places including Paris, Brussels and Germany, in addition to spending time in Egypt. The diverse cultures and landscapes in these places have all influenced my art, in terms of subject matter and use of colour and texture.
I studied Art, Sculpture and History of Art at 'O' and 'A' level and then went on to achieve various other art qualifications. The most significant of these were an ND Arts Foundation in Kingston upon Hull and a BA (Hons) Degree, a Post Graduate Diploma and an MA in Visual Communication all of which I achieved at the University of Central England in Birmingham. These courses included intensive training and study in the fields of Graphic Design, Typographic Design, Photography, Illustration and Fine Art.
Professionally, I embarked on a career in web design, starting as a junior designer progressing to senior management and Director level roles working as an Art/Creative Director for a number of well known children’s educational software development companies. I specialised in designing software navigation systems for the delivery of content through CD-Rom and online applications, developing cartoon characters and child friendly interfaces for the young learner.
Following this, I changed career direction to become a freelance, self employed Design Consultant servicing the corporate IT industry. I continued to pursue an interest in Fine Art, painting in my spare time, but now I paint and sculpt for a living.
I enjoy painting abstract and semi-abstract pieces in acrylic, using both brush and pallet knife. I often apply the paint directly to the canvas from the tube to create a distinctive and individual finish.
My interest in, and passion for, sculpture is echoed in the paintings that I create. I build up thick layers of paint to form a highly textured, three dimensional relief to the surface of each canvas. I have had several exhibitions of my work across the UK, including solo and shared exhibitions in London, East Yorkshire, York, Nottinghamshire and Powys in Wales.
I have undertaken commissioned work for both corporate clients and the private collector and now work full time as a fine artist and sculptor. All my work is original and unique from canvas to canvas. My sculpture includes large pieces cast in resin for the home, through to pewter figurines for corporate clients and the collector.
In addition to sculpting and painting for my own pleasure I frequently take on and produce commissioned pieces.
