I trained as a teacher of art and design at Worcester College of Education during the period 1969 - 1973 and taught art and ceramics in Worcestershire, the West Midlands and latterly Warwickshire. I have been Head of Art and Design at Milton Keynes College, Buckinghamshire and also Director of The School of Art and Design at Rugby College, Warwickshire.
Although I have produced my own ceramics for as long as I can remember, (I am the author of three books on producing pottery and ceramics, one of which has been transslated in over 9 different languages), oil painting is an activity I have recently returned to since taking early retirement from full time education in 2006. Until then I had not produced paintings since the mid 70s! I now paint and produce ceramics on a full time basis, alternating my time between the two.
I paint landscapes and abstracts. Bright, even gaudy colours and clearly visible brushstrokes are common elements in all my work. I use local scenes as inspiration for my landscapes while my abstracts have strong themic pattern qualities.
