Phil Coates

Phil Coates After 25 years in education, in 2001, I took the opportunity to develop my love of painting and drawing, taking early retirement and completing a Fine Art degree.

Trees figure in our history and in our fiction. They are an important resource and a vital part of the ecology. They might fill the landscape as a forest or stand alone like beacons. They are rich symbols, somewhere to hang a swing, a medium for carving a loved one's initials, providers of fruit or nuts, nesting places and so much more. Yet we take them for granted, only occasionally aware of their beauty or awed by their age.

My paintings celebrate their diversity and pay homage to their significance to us.
