I have been painting since graduating from Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen in 1979. In 1983 I was awarded a Young Artists Bursary by the Scottish Arts Council and in 1989/'90 received their Amsterdam Studio Bursary which enabled me to spend a year living and painting in Holland.
My work has been shown in many solo and group exhibitions including The Royal Scottish Academy, The Society of Scottish Artists, Aberdeen Artists Society, The Warwick Arts Trust in London and even as far afield as Poland and Croatia.
Examples of my work are in several Public and Corporate Collections including The City Arts Centre, Edinburgh, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, The Grizedale Society, Cumbria, The Persevere Arts Fund and Standard Life PLC.
My paintings try to capture the luminous quality of the light where the sea meets the land around Scotland's coasts, from the silvery greys of the North Sea to the almost Mediterranean blues and greens of the Western fringes and the Hebridean Islands.
Heavily worked layers of richly glowing pigments are scraped back to reveal underpainted colours reflecting the fluid undulation of tides and clouds.
