 About My Work.
Rachel Jeffery.
Since moving to Cornwall in 1979 I have found the drama of the sea and Cornish landscape an endless source of inspiration. The North coast can be bathed in crisp light while the south is veiled in a mist, I find this ever-changing pace of the elements challenging and invigorating to paint. I secured a BA HONS DEGREE in Fine Art at the well known Falmouth Art college in 1999.
My paintings are born from a collection of drawings , photos, or just memories collected on the edge of a cliff, beach or in a garden . Some of my paintings are totally created outdoors , but others due to practicalities and weather are studio paintings.
I like to draw spontaneously to capture the spirit of the place and merge these ideas with the figurative information from a photograph.
Back in my Art Studio I surround myself with studies , drawings and photos of my subject matter as I try to know and understand in order to express the appropriate energy. Working on several paintings at the same time allows me to curb my pre-conceived ideas, encouraging expression to flow through the brush marks. When the first layer is dry I live with it for a while and take time to decide how to move on .
