Ray Hill graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with a BA in Fine Art Painting in 2002, then lived in Spain for 7 months creating abstract work inspired by the Catalonian landscape. He is now working from studios at Witcombe in Gloucestershire. His current work is an intuitive, emotional response to the colours, textures and shapes of the natural world, a co-creation of the inner and outer world.Idealised images of the natural world, but not especially of a particular place. Ray has exhibited widely, including Discerning Eye, Sotheby’s Shrewsbury Open, The Waterloo Gallery London, Somerset, Birmingham, Newcastle and Spain and extensively in his home county. He organises many of his own solo exhibitions and for groups of fellow artists locally.

Artist statement
We cannot improve on nature. The natural world has the most varied and glorious of colours. What we can do, through a process of co-creation, is absorb all that we see with our physical eyes: colour, tone, form and texture. Then we can internalise, by using our ‘internal eyes’, and add our own imaginings. From this we are able to create something new. This morphing of the outside natural world and the internal world of imagination produces an image that is familiar and yet unrecognisable, comforting and intriguing.
The eyes of the body see a version of reality. The internal eyes of the spirit bring forth a new form of reality, upon which the viewer may reflect outwardly and also inwardly.
