Artist Richard Hearn

I studied Art in London and Leicester, before moving to Brighton. Having previously worked in a range of media along themes such as storytelling, memory and personal history, I returned to painting in 2005.

My recent paintings are acrylic on canvas; using trees as a theme, I have been exploring shapes and the shapes between. I work from photos, building up the image in layers. I like to leave lower colours to shimmer through, giving the picture a certain charge.

In 2011, I started a series of new works, scanning drawings into the computer, and then tinting, colouring and adapting these images. This has allowed me to work quickly, but I have also tried to retain the mark-making of drawing in these images. These are available as limited edition prints.

I have exhibited in Brighton, Hove and Shoreham, I have sold a number of artworks through these exhibitions as well as online.

I have also written a series of articles for The Artist Magazine.
