Rob Dudley is a leading exponent of the art of watercolour painting. He studied at Exeter College of Art graduating with a BA (Hons) Fine Art and has been painting ever since.
Watercolour is the perfect medium for Rob to catch the fleeting changes of light on coast and countryside that his much admired work is synonymous with. He can often be found amongst the estuaries of Devon or Cornwall or in the lanes rapidly sketching the effects of light before heading back to the studio to develop the work further. The paintings are not just about ‘place’ but through a skilful distillation of composition, tone and colour he manages to capture the essence of the location as well.
His paintings have been shown at some of the leading galleries in the South West with his work is in private collections both in the UK and abroad. His work is often featured in newspapers and magazines and has been shown on the BBC.
Alongside many private commissions, he was honoured in 2006 to be asked by The Institution of Engineers to produce a series of paintings to commemorate the bicentennial of the birth of the revolutionary engineer I.K. Brunel.
Rob, along with his wife Siân also a painter, are regular contributors to The Artist and Illustrator magazine. He has demonstrated painting at art shows throughout the country and for the second year in succession will be demonstrating at this years Art in Action. He is much in demand for his informative and entertaining demonstrations to art societies and runs with his wife, workshops for the Field Studies Council at the famous Flatford Mill.
Rob is also an award winning scriptwriter as one of the team behind the animated TV series ‘Shaun the Sheep’ and has just started work on his first children’s book due out in 2012.
