My name is Ros Walker and I live and work in North Yorkshire.
Born in Doncaster, I was educated mainly in North Staffordshire,
before graduating from Aberystwyth University in 1983
with a B.A. Hons.degree in Visual Art. After moving to London,
I had several very different temporary jobs including freelance
illustrator and motorcycle courier, before taking up the craft of
stained glass. I worked for a studio in south London for two years
gaining experience and moved up to Derbyshire to open my own
studio ‘Glasslights’ which I ran for almost 10 years completing both
private and public commissions.
In 2003, I moved to North Yorkshire and inspired by the beautiful,
varied landscape, decided to return to the medium of painting.
My paintings are often large and mainly based on acrylics to
which I will sometimes add a variety of materials including sand,
raffia, grasses, wool, silk thread and tissue paper to create
depth and texture. I try to emphasise the natural patterns,
rhythms and vibrant colour combinations which occur in the
natural world, but also the calm, vast expanse of space sometimes
experienced on the moors or coast. Colourful wildflower meadows,
the coast and river with the ever changing light, colours and reflections
provide most of the inspiration for my work.
Along with a developing interest in digital photography,
I am continuing to explore the idea of combining different media,
perhaps including glass to create new textural effects.
Thank you for taking an interest in my paintings.
