I have always loved drawing, although it is only relatively recently that I have started to paint. I am still, therefore, very much in the experimental stages - although I have to say that this is a phase that I hope never to grow out of! I haven’t yet decided which is my preferred medium; I tend to use different materials according to what I am depicting. I often combine them, which gives you the best of all worlds!
I like to draw movement, many of my drawings involve dancers or horses. But with regard to painting, my current obsession is with emptiness, although this is a hard subject to translate onto canvas and still keep interesting!
I am, more or less, a self taught painter. My subject has to fascinate me, which is why I only just scraped though my Art ‘O’ Level when I was sixteen! As an adult, I did go to Night School for two years where I re-learnt the basics. This was definitely time well spent. I also joined Farington Art Group, near Preston (where I live). The self-belief that they have given me over the three years or so that I have been a member is something for which I will always be grateful. I have also recently started to exhibit (and even sell) my work locally, which has boosted my confidence even more!
