Steven Knowles

My education as an artist can be traced as far back as 1980 as seven year old. I entered a Nationwide Building society competition to design a moneybox and came second. In 1996 I qualified from Portsmouth University with a BA Hons Environmental Design Degree. My journey in art continued and after moving to London in 1999, I enjoyed successful shows firstly as a painter and later as a curator. My career continued with directorships in galleries & studios in Hoxton, Dalston, Camberwell and Brixton. Over recent years I've dedicated more time to exploring other media including sculpture, pottery, photography, film and video. Having moved out of London, I've had more time to enjoy and create new work. 2010 is going to be a really good year and am looking forward to achieving a number of exciting and wide ranging projects. Some selected shows: October 2001 Sun & Doves, Camberwell and Islington London November 2001 “North vs South” group show (artist and co-curator) November 2001 Cromwell Hospital, Chelsea, London British Red Cross, group show November 2001 Mafuji Gallery, London “14 x 14”, group show December 2001 The Snug, Camberwell, London “degrate 5” group show (artist and curator) June 2002 Red Gate Gallery, Brixton, London “15” group show (artist and curator) January 2002 foadart.com Co-founder of online gallery and networking tool July 2002 Century Gallery, Hoxton, London “ …by misadventure” (artist and co-curator ) April 2003 Candid Arts Trust, Islington, London “Q2” group show June 2003 Camberwell College of Art, Camberwell, London “foad glorious foad” group show (artist and curator) June 2004 Mixed images, The Alwyne, Islington June 2005 New paintings, The Junction, Islington May 2010 Reading Contemporary Art Fair, Reading, Berkshire June/July 2010 Whitstable Biennale, (d-a-o-f.blogspot.com) November Dalston, London November, Windsor Contemporary Art Fair, Windsor, Berkshire
