Susan Entwistle paints gardens and landscapes from her visits around the country, using a contemporary, pointillist style in layers of coloured dots. Her work has sprung out of the nostalgia of a childhood that was so often centred on the garden and the natural landscape around her.
Having exhibited her paintings at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May this year with great success Susan’s continuing theme of garden art continues to gain inspiration from gardens and landscapes around the UK.
Lady Erskine of Cambo Estate in Fife whose walled garden Susan has painted in ‘The Garden Path’ and ‘Cambo Gardens Floral’ says, "Susan's distinctive style brings an exciting vibrancy to garden art."
Susan undertakes commissions from private collectors to large corporations and continues to visit the wealth of beautiful gardens in the UK and further afield.
Susan has a textile design background having designed for companies such as John Lewis & Laura Ashley.
'As a self taught artist my textile design background has influenced and shaped the style I paint in. The embroidered element of my textiles that were created in a ‘painterly’ fashion has easily evolved into the pointillist style I now use in my paintings.
Colour is all important in my work. I create the painting by building layers of coloured dots and marks using acrylic paints instead of threads to emulate a tapestry-like impression of my subject.
The subject matter I am almost inevitably drawn towards is the natural environment, whether it is a landscape of woodland, a park or garden, or the trees and flowers within those landscapes. Hopefully my paintings reflect this love and can take a little part of nature and the garden into someone’s house along with all their own nostalgic memories.'
