Sylvia Pettifer

Wonderful pieces of work by up and coming artist Sylvia Pettifer. Sylvias art often reflects her mood , from being at peace to being in the pit of lonely depression, being full of joy to deep sadness or full of faith to despair. Most titles give a clue to what the painting is revealing, but decide for your self Sylvia was born in Kensington , London in 1960. She spent most of her young life with her mother and father and three sisters and brother in NW london. Sylvia by the age of 7 was experiencing obvious difficulties at school , this was found in later life to be due to dyslexia, for which Sylvia endured years of torment from both members of staff and pupils at school. By the age of 17 sylvia had now become a beautiful young woman ,with a heart to match and she was set on the wonderful life ahead of her, dreams of modeling and singing often filled her heart. Then tragedy struck when Sylvia was attacked and her whole life was pulled from under her. After several years of crown court hearings the monster was finally put behind bars. Only recently has Sylvia learnt to deal with the scars from the attack. In 1980 Sylvia met her first husband and married within the year. Her first and only child (to date) was also born within the same year. Then came the divorce. By the 1990s Sylvia was involved in various relationships enjoying life to the full , as she always had, even in severe circumstances. Then her father died in 1991 (also an artist "Maurice Pettifer" )which sent Sylvia on an emotional rollercoaster. A few years after this her sons father died. Glenn, her son went on drugs and ended up in mental institutions from time to time, due to the drug abuse. It was not long before Sylvia became ill herself and was diagnosed in 2002 with a very rare breast cancer in which she received radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Four years on after recovering from breast cancer Sylvia and her husband lost their house to the banks, because of financial difficulties and decided on a fresh start and moved to Brittany, France where Sylvias now paints most of her art. Sylvias art reflects her powerful emotion when she paints, and the childlike qualities that she puts to the canvas even after such difficulties. She is not bitter , nor angry, but just full of joy and the Lord , who brought her through the fire untouched! Amen! What a wonderful woman, wife and cook! Jason Gavin
