Troy Slater

Troy Slater Creativity is an undying compulsion in my universe and I exercise this passion through many different methods. I am searching for the ultimate means of expression and communication. The ability to record and convey ones life experience and perception of reality to others is a lifetimes quest, never to be fulfilled only gradually strengthened.

I have drawn and written for as long as I can remember and I took up the guitar when I was twelve years old. Music was and is a soul sport that I could see as well as hear. For me, art and music are inseparable. As an artist, my zenith of ambition would be to create a bespoke moment of existence for the individual. The sights, sounds, smell, taste and emotion. An encapsulated sliver of experience and sensation from one human to another. This desire has led me to be interested and involved in a myriad of media. From tattooing to fine art. From acoustic pop to death metal.

My identity is an artist and personality who is fascinated with the world and everything within it.

I left school at sixteen with an A* in GCSE art but went straight into full time employment, working on a chain gang building a stretch of motorway north of Carlisle. My family was poor and the need to earn a wage outweighed my artistic ambitions. Painting remained a sideline until 2002 when I decided to pursue art full time. Since then I have gained a strong reputation in my home town through word of mouth commissions, press coverage and self promoted exhibitions. Although I have tackled many different subject matters, I am perhaps best known for my musician portraits which were represented at the Affordable Art Fair, Battersea in 2004.

My versatility and professionalism has gained me many private collectors, commercial work in the form of murals and graphic design and involvement with large events and workshops. In 2011 I was fortunate to be involved with Radio 1's big weekend which was held in Carlisle. In 2012 I gained a commission via Newcastle council to create a soundtrack in conjunction with the Olympic Torch Relay. I have now relocated to Gateshead to the brand new Brighton Road Studios, a converted and listed church building.
