Apart from school, I have no formal art training. I loved art at school, and always meant to continue after but somehow life got in the way. After a gap of around 40 years, 5 years ago I decided to 'try my hand' again, and am fortunate enough to have friends here in France who, as artists in their own right, have given me the benefit of their expertise, not to mention support and confidence.
I draw inspiration from nature and the surrounding country side with it's abundance of sunflowers, poppies, vines, woodland, water ways - all set against a magnificent backdrop of mountains, the Pyrenees and the Canigou. I am attracted by the human body and am lucky enough to be able to do life drawing at the Maison des Jeunes et de la Cultur at Carcassonne. The drawings I do there have formed the basis of some of my recent work.
I also take commissions for portraiture and animals.
I use several mediums, but I have discovered a passion for oil pastel, and much of my work is in this medium, although of course, not all! I draw and paint as often as my working life allows, and have exhibited some of my pictures in local exhibitions. In June 2012 I will be exhibiting along with many fellow artists in the Abbey of St Hillaire, near to Limoux here in South West France.
