I started drawing and painting about fifteen years ago when I entered and won third prize in the young artists category at the Bath and West Show. Since then I have worked with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds using art as a means of talking about their life issues. I have also run lots of arts and crafts groups for children. In May I had an exhibition at the Golden Lion Public House on Gloucester Rd, in Bristol where I successfully sold five paintings and have been asked to exhibit my work at the Greenbank when they have finished refurbishing in late July.
I am a family support worker by profession working with young people who get into trouble on the streets and find drawing and painting is a great release from all the confused minds and problem solving I have to do in the day.
I am a huge lover of music especially hip hop and the graffiti scene that goes along with the underground music scene. My art work has developed from some basic graffiti styles and influenced by the cartoon style of Dalek, the abstract and block work of Picasso and Paul Klee’s child like images. I would describe my work as surreal animation using acrylics and spray paints, working with similar shades of a colour in one picture. I love the bold brightness of graffiti and the way you have to follow the lines with your eyes in wildstyle so have transferred this technique from words into pictures.
