My father taught me to paint 'still life' in oils when I was very young but I was encouraged to follow a more conventional career path and missed the chance of going to art college. After I lost my father and gave birth to my daughter at virtually the same time, I decided not to be confined anymore by office environments and I unleashed my previously private creative side. I qualified in floristry and textiles and then became part of a local 'Art Project' which has taught me the technicalities of drawing and painting and given me the encouragement to produce artwork for sale. For the past month, I have had my work displayed for the first time, in a local hotel.
Having lived in Cornwall all of my life so far, I am most inspired by the natural world and the patient and quiet struggle of nature against man-made objects; a weed in front of a building, moorland framed through a mine building window - who is the real winner? I like mixed media pictures as I like to pick out different textures but I also often work with just one medium. I like my artwork to express my individuality and varied interests. I am constantly evolving and producing different works all the time so watch this space....!
I call my artwork "Memorable Art" as I like my pictures to evoke a past memory or create a new one for myself and the viewer, but my main purpose in creating art is to make other people smile!
