 Vikki Hastings, born in 1987, from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, previously studied at Edinburgh College of Art where she graduated from with a BA (Hons) degree in drawing and painting. Prior to this, Vikki studied at Reid Kerr College, Paisley, where she graduated from with an HNC in Envorinmental Fine Art. Vikki currently works full-time from her own studio in her hometown.
Vikki's practice is primarily concerned with her continous obsession with fairy tale; and not so much "Walt Disney's" prettified versions or Hans Christian Andersen's more sinister tales, but more so, the balance between the two. The idea of the 'poisoned apple' is a constantly returned to feature in her work, demonstrating her ongoing battle with both her own naivety, the balance between both positive and negative decisions and the struggle of falling victim to her own humanity. Vikki creates paintings on not so much a 'happily ever after' world but simply a differing one, projecting alternative realities into other people's every day lives.
