Hi I’m Linda. I am an artist because I flit from one idea to another... and the
ideas take over my actions and I must run with them and let them happen. It
you’ve ever asked ‘is this art?’ or thought ‘that’s not art’ or asked ‘what is
art?’ then my answer is... it is somebody’s idea... and they have followed it...
made it... then its art. ART IS AN IDEA. You may not like it, get it, understand
it... because you can’t... but if you like it... love it even... that’s
wonderful! You can’t have it ‘the idea’ I mean, but you can appreciate it.
Appreciation is everything in art. Can you appreciate art? If you can respect
that it is some body’s idea... and try to understand that artists are people who
have ideas and act on them, then you are half way there. If you want to own the
product... of the idea, then you can buy it, but what price? Who knows?
How you judge a picture or work of art says more about you than it does about
the art or the artist... it shows your respect or lack of it, your understanding
of the process or lack of it, your attention to details or ignorance. So be
careful what you reveal about yourself when you judge... comment... speak.
I paint because I can draw and was judged well at school. I love colour so I use
it to draw. Art is our first language – by which we express ourselves. We all
have the ability from our birth until it is damaged or destroyed by negative
remarks. It is a hot house plant killed by a cold blast.
There are no wrong answers to art... you can do what you like. It’s about you
and your mind’s eye... which sees two ways.
We learn by doing. That is what I do but what can you see? Be careful how you
answer.
