Edvard Munch The Scream - the board game!

The Scream by Edvard Munch

You might think that the theft of an internationally famous artwork such as The Scream by Edvard Munch by gun-weilding thieves is not a laughing matter. But not so according to the Munch Museum in Oslo from where it was stolen. Because the curators of the museum have turned the heist into a board game, and it's now on sale in the museum gift shop!

In the raid on 22-Aug-2005, a member of staff was threatened with a gun while two robbers wrenched The Scream from the wall, while the museum was open. The Scream has not been found although six men have been charged with the theft and are currently awaiting trial.

The game is called The Mystery of The Scream, and is aimed at children over the age of 6. Players can assume the roles of the criminals or the detectives. The game includes 36 cards which feature other famous artworks. It is being described as educational.

Jurunn Christoffersen, spokeswoman for the Munch Museum, said: "Some people think it's horrible to treat the matter as a game, but we see things totally differently. It's a completely innocent game."

We say: The Scream is a masterpiece of expressionist art - it is tragic that it's whereabouts are still unknown.
