The piece is based on the ideas surrounding what I dub the 'teddy debate' that involved in short the persecution of school teacher Gillian Gibbons for naming a class teddy bear Mohammed, whilst teaching on Muslim soil.
I personally believed the act was nothing more than innocent, and that the country and its people were blowing the whole scenario out of proportion. There were many protestors who campaigned for the academic to be executed for her crime - barbarism in my opinion. How can a deeply religious nation condemn such an unforgivable act?
Although I would like to convey my thoughts on this story, I based my artwork on facts and accounts from a variety of newspaper sources. Therefore any thoughts provoked as a result are not solely my own, but based on many authors opinions also.
I set out to produce a piece that cleverly conveyed the many appalled thoughts by the British public without causing too much of an offence, which I believe it doesn't. The aim of my piece is to stimulate thought associated to this headline story to enable the viewer to re-evaluate and possibly their own reactions.
