Mr Punch was introduced to the UK as Pulcinelia, a manic marionette, around the time of Charles II. Later some brave traveling puppeteer freed him of his strings, unleashing a squawking, hook nosed, stick wielding, anarchic glove puppet onto this green and pleasant land. Well done that man.
