This view of the Vatican is across the bridge which leads to Castel D'Angelo. Originally named, Pons Aelius, it was finished in 134 AD to enhance Hadrian's mausoleum which stands on the nearby bank. It was re-modelled in the 17th century by Bernini. It is the most photographed and painted of all Rome's bridges.
