This Biblical scene of blame, guilt and passing responsibility actually comes from a church door relief I saw pictured in a book somewhere. In the original depicition, I don't think the serpent was pointing back to God, but it seemed to underline the 'things going round in circles' aspect of blame. The minimal use of colour - red to show blushing and the apples seemed entirely appropriate. The sun has a somewhat embarrassed expression too - like it doesn't know whether to go down and hide for the night, or is it trying to back away having just come up.. the sky-high mushrooms speak for themselves, and God lifting one foot off his pedestal is a little irate. If shops were to sell a "Sorry you got caught" card, this would be it.
