This strong red and black design is based on shapes used in Tibetan Buddhist meditations, but I doubt anyone would recognise which parts. Interestingly most people who view it see some kind of black angel in the middle of red, whereas the red areas were the ones which, when painted, were the subject matter. Everything changes!
The work is important to me, because the lines were created free-hand in an unexpected few seconds, and having since tried to replicate the shapes, I've realised how difficult it is to get them just right, and here they are - just right. As the colours are not printed, but painted with a brush, there are some nice textures in certain lights. It wouldn't work so well if it was reproduced without that extra character.
