Description of artwork Part of the “City” series, this painting continues the theme of representing key architectural landmarks of each city. These structures, so often associated with progress, are then contrasted with skeletal images depicting major events or symbols associated with that city but which are often destructive in nature. The contrast is exentuated by the use of both figurative and abstract representation. In this painting the sweeping curves of Madrid’s Barajas airport along with it’s ‘Y’ columns are combined with imagery representative of the bullfight. The bull is a national symbol, synonymous with strength yet in the bullfight it’s destruction is celebrated as represented by the abstracted image of the bull carcass and Matador’s cape interwoven with the roof.
