This is a reproduction painting in perfect detail of “Marilyn Monroe,” by Andy Warhol. Warhol merged art with the culture of mass production by creating vivid turquoise, mint green, fuchsia and lemon yellow multiples of her image. During the four months following Marilyn Monroe’s death, Pop Art founder Warhol made 20 silkscreened paintings of her based on a publicity photo from the film “Niagara.” Fascinated by death and the cult of celebrity, Warhol generated brash, assembly-line paintings of Monroe symbolizing the mortal behind the myth, and her widespread presence in the media.
Signed and dated. Finished with a gloss varnish.
