Decoy, by definition, is a lure to a trap or perhaps a fake used to mislead or misdirect. There are several misdirections in this work, even the unnecessary and obsessive detail in the cockerel is a distraction - it's a tool to draw the viewer in on an intimate level to confuse the narrative. The work is essentially ambiguous but plays with anguish of love in true romantic fashion. It is, however, not devoid of humour.
