This work depicts the famous Beigel Bakery in Brick Lane, London. An original photograph has been blended into a painting of acrylic so that the two works merge into one. The canvas is deliberately roughened with fragments of paper which is painted over to create a fractured and emotional edge. Small clippings of news papers and foil are used to recreate boarded up doorways daubed with graffiti. The sky is overcast, leaden and grey but the sun is struggling to break through.
