Description of artwork This is a prized shot - almost every tiger photographer's dream - to capture the look of a man eater 10 feet away. This was a young male, who had entered the reserve from a neighbouring mountain range. He set up his territory on the fringes of the reserve - the buffer zone where villagers lived across the fence. Unknown to a 14 year old village girl, she crossed the fence to collect firewood and stumbled across him - he then killed her and would not part with her until 4 elephants and 2 reserve cars had to drive him away. He was ordered to be shot, but fortunately for him, it was an auspicous day in the country and the Government 'pardoned' him once (given that the girl had also crossed the reserve fencing). Looking at this male 10 feet away on a small elephant was indescribable. His look says it all. My mahout told me after this sighting that he had seen a lot of tigers in his day - but this one had a look of hunger and an appreciation for human beings. This was a hypnotizing sight at the time of it being shot - and still look at it the same way. Naturally this is a prized possession and only 3 have been put to print. 2 remain. If you're a wildlife enthusiast/conservationist - this is definitely one for the collection. Please contact me if you have any questions.
