Postage Stamo Collage This work was created from over 4000 used postage stamps. “Bratatat” depicts the right hand panel of Lichtenstein’s triptych ‘As I opened fire’ from 1964. It graphically describes what he wanted to say ~ ‘A minor purpose of my war paintings is to put military aggressiveness in an absurd light’. His work was about visual communication and the definition of images. While trying to keep sentiment at bay and control aggressiveness he did not allow the viewer to forget that there was once such a thing. This is as pertinent today as it was in 1964 when Lichtenstein created this work.
