The Mandylion, or head of Jesus Christ, is a renowned form of religious icon which can be seen in many churches around the world.
Living in Istanbul, or Constantinople as it was, I became interested in icons, their long history and unchanging forms, and began to paint them - not because of the religious aspect, but more to understand the strictly stylised process behind them.
This piece is painted on wallpaper, in acrylic paint, and is varnished for protection.
The overall size is approximately 8 x 10.5", and it is pictured with and without a mount. The painting will come unmounted, so you can display as you wish.
