Description of artwork A depiction of the annual Sweeps festival held in Rochester High Street. I first came to Rochester in 1964 when I came to the Medway College of Art from South London to learn to paint. I fell in love with the city which was more like a village but with a castle and a cathedral!! I spent the next four years drawing and painting every part of this wonderful place. I came back to painting it recently with a lifetime of experience behind me and I began by painting the magic of the annual Sweeps Festival with the swirling Morris dancers and the many visitors.
