On a journey back from Southend-on-Sea, I took the opportunity to visit some other parts of the country and photograph some places of interest. One of these was the picturesque town of Lyme Regis. Situated in the South West of Dorset, Lyme Regis is an historic unspoiled seaside resort and fishing port on the world famous Cobb harbour. Surrounded by beautiful coastlines and countryside, the area has now been awarded World Heritage Site Status; famous for its geology and fossil finds.
I have painted the harbour with it's typical fishing vessels designed to operate fishing trawls. Trawls are fishing nets that are dragged along the bottom of the sea or in mid-water at a specified depth. A trawler may operate two or more trawl nets simultaneously (double-rig and multi-rig).
In the foreground sits one of the colourful boats which takes visitors around the beautiful Jurassic coastline with its characteristic blue lias clay falls. The town itself is a myriad of houses and shops, sweeping around the bay.
This mounted giclee print will fit a ready made frame.
