My true passion for painting arrived when I was recovering from 2 major strokes and open-heart surgery at the age 26 but I became an artist, 10 years later when I started a charity art project called Year 10 Avis & Tilley.
I also am one of the illustrator for County Child Magazine and produced watercolour and ink illustrations to accompany their features, editorial and stories.
I teach part time exploring art, at the largest FE college in Birmingham to adults with learning difficulties and love supporting them to explore their creativity and expressive and explore themselves through art.
My fine art painting are prodominatly in acrylic and/or oils. Nature, land and seascapes are themes that have continued to influence my artwork ever since, as does my health. Whilst making a good recovery from my strokes, I am left with life changing elements including chronic pain and fatigue. These two things also influence my artwork. They are reflected in what I choice to paint, the colour choices I make, movement, and mood within the piece. Painting is my sanctuary, my place to let off steam, express difficulty, find strength and peace, both during the good and challenging times
I have sold paintings in my local area and exhibited in The Stroke Associations National Life after stroke centre, and during open ehibitions and The Midlands art Centre and work on a commission basis.
